"Jill was very interested in our input and incorporated
our ideas into the plan when we began 4 years ago. We especially liked the
presentation of possible plantings (via photos) that were included, and the
discussion of the pros and cons of each variety. In addition, the plan is
one that we can add to incrementally, so this ongoing relationship has continued
as we develop the landscaping on our property. We have enjoyed working with
Jill and have consulted her regularly since our original plan was drawn.
She is professional, accessible and fun to work with!" ~ MG
It was the love of plants and
history that brought me to the field of landscape architecture. I
received my Master’s in Landscape Architecture and in Historic Preservation
from the University of Virginia, and have over 25 years of experience in the
field.
For almost a decade, I worked as the senior landscape architect for
the horticulturalist, Ian Robertson, at his firm, Ian Robertson Ltd.. During
my employment there the most well know commissions the firm designed were most
of the original gardens at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond
Virginia. These gardens included the Henry M. Flagler Perennial Garden, the
Martha and Reed West Island Garden, the original Japanese Tea Garden, and the
Lucy Payne Minor Memorial Garden.
In 2001, I started Jill Trischman-Marks, Landscape Architect, and at the
same time, joined the staff of Rieley and Associates on a part-time basis to
gain more experience in the field of historic preservation. My work with them
has provided me the opportunity to work on historic properties such as Thomas
Jefferson’s home Monticello and his rural retreat Poplar Forest, George
Washington’s Mount Vernon, and James Madison’s home Montpelier.
